Comcast email trouble. If you are a Comcast user, you are probably not receiving any subscription email messages (like the Aphorism of the Day) right now. Or any email from me, for that matter. Comcast claims my email server is on some sort of blacklist. I'm working on it.
The Help section is where you get — well, help on how to use Aphorisms Galore! Regrettably, there isn't a whole lot of help available at the moment, but this will improve soon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you link to my site, or participate in a link exchange?
This is by far the most frequently asked question, so let's get it out of the way first. I will link to your site if I think Aphorisms Galore!'s visitors and users would be interested in it. I will not dilute the usefulness and/or reputation of Aphorisms Galore! by engaging in tit-for-tat link exchanges. If you want to drive traffic to your site, that's what advertising is for.
I heard a great aphorism somewhere. Do you know who said it?
I try to publish all the information I have. So unless you can find it on the site (you might want to try searching for it), then, most likely, no.
Can you give me the email address (or fax number, or other contact information) to this or that aphorist?
No. Sorry. However, some aphorists are Aphorisms Galore! users, and I am currently working on ways for them to interact with interested users.
Can I really use these aphorisms in my article, report, speech, blog post, etc.? Without permission from the aphorist (or you) permission?
Yes, you are free to include short quotes by other people in works of your own, as long as you include some form of attribution. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, either — a simple "as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it..." or "to quote Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes..." will do just fine. Of course, if you use Aphorisms Galore! to find the right aphorism for your work, I would appreciate it if you would care to let your audience know.
Can I link to your site from mine (or from my company's or institution's)?
Yes, of course, and you don't have to ask for my permission. A short email message to tell me how you have used or linked to Aphorisms Galore! would be very welcome, but by no means mandatory.
Is it allright to link to individual pages within Aphorisms Galore! (so-called "deep linking"), or do I have to link to the home page only?
You are of course free to link to any page you like. I even go out of my way to keep your "deep links" working as I improve and/or extend the site, by keeping page addresses the same, or by forwarding to new pages with equivalent content.
I have a question not answered here!
If your question is about an aphorism, aphorist, category, or blog entry, you can use the "Comment" feature. Or send it to me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will try to answer it (time permitting).
